What our guests say...

My Raku pots are proudly and conspicuously on display!

"I adored your course.  It was such fun and so therapeutic.  Elevenses and lunch were unbelievably delicious and I shall never forget those 3 happy days in your studio and soaking up the March sunshine on  your suntrap terrace. But the best was revealing the Raku pots from their burnt sawdust!  Like exposing treasure. Thank you for an outstanding experience. Would LOVE to return next year to do another Raku weekend."

We loved our stay at Vinegar Hill...

"This was another great Alastair Sawday recommendation and, as usual, it didn't disappoint. David and Lucy were very welcoming, our room was comfortable and well-equipped, the breakfasts were delicious, and the location was perfect for exploring Milford on Sea. There's loads of parking and it's a doddle to walk into the centre of town for a meal (if you're walking at night, you may wish to take a torch; the road isn't busy, but it is quite dark in places. David is an accomplished potter, so you'll probably find it hard to resist buying some of his gorgeous creations. We couldn't! If we need a B & B in the area in future, we'll head back to Vinegar Hill Pottery in a flash."

Stylish Pottery...

"Tucked away down a country lane is Vinegar Hill Pottery, B & B with a difference, our room the Hayloft had its own entrance via a spiral staircase the large, light and airy room was supplemented not only with contemporary ensuite shower room with designer basin, courtesy of Dave the potter, but with your own breakfast table and cool box. Dave brings the delicious breakfast to the door in the morning at a pre-arranged time. Lucy and Dave are a delightful couple who can not do enough for you to the extent of lending you bikes to explore the many nearby cycle paths. This is a truly wonderful find."

Enthusiastic hosts...

"As well as being talented and young, Lucy and David are welcoming and enthusiastic hosts and have created two different B&B 'rooms' which share the joy of handmade pottery and being either above the potter's wheel or below the potter's showroom. We have just enjoyed three sunny days and had a splendid time. We enjoyed the extra space of the downstairs suite but saw the upstairs room and can attest to its charm."

Chilled out and quirky...

"We spent 2 nights in Vinegar Hill's very own Victorian gypsy caravan, then 2 nights in the Hayloft and thoroughly enjoyed both parts of our stay. The caravan is, obviously, small but so quaint and the bed was extremely comfortable. You soon get used to the dimensions of the caravan(mind your head on the entrance) and start to relax.

"If you like camping but would prefer to be looked after (no cooking on a camp fire or sharing showers!) this is the place. Take your flip-flops for those midnight walks to your private shower room.

"The Hayloft is a lovely room to stay in. Clean, contemporary and large, it's easy to wish you'd booked for longer. Breakfast is bought to your room/caravan each morning with a cool box left the night before with fresh milk and juice etc. Delicious!"

Real retreat...

"Neil and I have thought long and hard about possible comments and feedback we can give, and can't think of any improvements we could suggest to make a stay with you any better.
Our 'eyrie' was extremely comfortable and calm - it felt like a real retreat, whilst at the same time we were really welcomed by you and the family. Breakfast was superb - fresh and good quality. The pottery side was superb - Dave was patient and knowledgeable, and with his help we achieved so much, given our 'absolute beginner' status."

Passion for the pottery...

"We can honestly say that we had a really wonderful few days with you & Dave. His passion for the pottery (particularly the Raku firing!) enthused us all & it was rewarding to come away with some pots after just a few days. It was also a real pleasure to spend some time with you & the family. For us it made the stay just that bit different & special & it works really well if you are also spending some time with Dave in the studio."
Mike and Karen Morrison

Completely happy...

"We were completely happy with the accommodation & food (your lunches & breakfasts were outstanding). I'd like to reiterate that we had a great time & would not hesitate to recommend the course to our friends (in fact we've already done so!). The course + accommodation package is a fantastic combination & hopefully you will be able to make this work for you on an ongoing basis."
Mr and Mrs J Payne

Exciting...

"I did enjoy the course very much and learned a great deal.  For me, the most exciting part of the course was the Raku firing and I was very pleased with my products. Your food was excellent and I enjoyed the relaxed family atmosphere at meal times."
Peter Chamberlain

More than delighted...

"We chose David Rogers Pottery for a number of reasons - and we were more than delighted with our choice. Not only are David and Lucy immensely friendly and helpful, they were both flexible and understanding with regard to our requests, and delivered a training course that was highly professional and thorough, but above all was fun and light-hearted. We would definitely recommend Vinegar Hill to any budding potters!"

Surpassed our expectations...

"We were both really happy with the course down there and raved about it to our friends when we got home. We've got one of the Raku pots we made on display in our livingroom and a bowl is being used beside the bed for earings and that sort of stuff.

"Both the accommodation and tuition surpassed our expectations and the fact that a beginner can go from no experience to churning our mugs, jugs and pots in three days was totally unexpected.

"The food was beautiful, the course well paced and the overall surroundings great. We'd thoroughly recommend both the B&B and course to anyone who either wants a relaxed weekend away or has the slightest interest in having a go at pottery."
Mike Gott

Thoroughly enjoyed...

"Just a quick note to thank you very much for the pottery, which Jane Everard gave to us last weekend. We are really pleased with the results and proud of our efforts, although the glazing has improved the final product considerably!!

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with you and the day 'at the wheel' and have been recommending it to friends. We hope to revisit the area before too long.

"Best wishes to you and Lucy."
Sue Hawkings

Excellent food and accommodation...

"I cannot thank you enough for the course and accommodation. I really enjoyed the course, amazed that I managed to produce some pots! The raku has been admired and my daughter was impressed, which is quite an achievement!

"We were very lucky only having three of us, but you were very patient with me and gave me confidence to have a go, but also supportive and helpful when things went wrong. The food and accommodation were excellent and I have recommended you to friends.

"I am looking for an evening class in the autumn, but may well come again at some stage.

"Many thanks"

Extremely pleased...

"Hi Lucy
"Thanks very much for your hospitality yesterday, it was a real treat.

"Please thank David very much too. We were all extremely pleased with our progress and really felt his expert tuition made a big difference. He is very generous with his praise too, which helps the confidence no end!

"Many thanks"
Melissa

Great experience...

"Dear Lucy and Dave,
"Just wanted to thank you for a great day yesterday. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the food was excellent. I do seem to have a couple of bruises this morning! The group were really friendly and it was really nice to learn more about the area.

"Thank you again for a really great experience,

Regards,"
Amanda Deighton

Brilliant time...

"Hello Lucy and David,

"I just wanted to say what a brilliant time myself and Tracy had on 19th March. It was just brilliant! You made us feel so welcome and made the whole day fun. We were amazed that we actually created pots and plates! The lunch was delicious too - I'm sorry now I couldn't eat any more.

"I have recommended you to lots of friends as it was such a great day and really good value for money. I can't wait to collect our pots and see what we have made.

"Thanks again."
Popsey and Tracy

Wonderful day...

"Hi David and Lucy,

"Thank you soo much for such a wonderful day on Saturday. I felt like my technique came on so far in such a short period of time with all your top tips and guidance David. Thank you also to Lucy for looking after us so well. The cake and lunch was absolutely delicious, and I appreciate how tricky catering can be with little people running around, so thank you.

"Please could I book a place for myself on your course on Saturday 2nd July? It will be a birthday treat!

"Many thanks, and looking forward to hearing from you.
With best wishes"
Nicky

Everything perfect...

"Sorry for the delay in sending this but just wanted to say what a lovely time we had at your b & b, just a pity we were only there one night! The breakfast was delicious, bed very comfortable, in fact everything was perfect.

Thanks again"
Sue

Wonderful hospitality...

"Just wanted to thank both of you for a fabulous day on Saturday - wonderful hospitality, great teaching, good company, delicious food and 13 pots made to boot! I will recommend it to friends and you have already featured in my blog. Just looking for an excuse to come back - don't fancy waiting for my 60th year!

Thanks again,"
Jen Hogan

Amazing day...

"Dave

"I came along to your pottery class on Saturday 2nd July. Firstly I would like to thank you and your wife for the most amazing day. My husband bought me the day as a birthday gift back in March. I had been thoroughly looking forward to it and I have to say I was certainly not disappointed. I attending with the expectation of not coming away with anything and ended up making many items one if which was made entirely on my own. I felt a real sense of achievement and enjoyment over the course of the day.

Thank you so much!"
Nicola Lee

A lovely place...

"I just wanted to say what a lovely time we had both staying at the B&B but also on the pottery course.

"I am delighted with what I managed to achieve in terms of improving my technique so please pass that on to David. We hope to come for another course and to stay again next year.

"Once again just to say what a lovely place you have, very relaxing and the food, course, everything was just right."
Emma Mann

Perfect place to stay...

"Hi Dave and Lucy

"Just wanted to email you to say a big THANK YOU for such, a lovely weekend. It went beyond our expectations from start to finish.

"The B&B is lovely, its a perfect place to stay and we do hope that we get the chance to stay again.

"I had such a good time on Saturday learning how to throw a pot and am desperate to get back to a class soon (if only you weren't so far away from Romford!) The day
went so quick and there wasn't a moment I was bored and I felt like I
really learnt a lot in such a short time.

"The brunch and lunch went beyond what I expected, food and setting was really lovely.

"I cannot say enough how lovely it was. I will certainly be recommending you."
Marion and Jim

Attention to detail...

"Dear Lucy and Dave,

"Many thanks for a grand three days. I hope you guys are not too exhausted.

"What a lovely place! Sitting room, spacious new bathroom and a bedroom with a gorgeous big wide bed. Attention to details is everywhere. Our warm relaxed hosts had provided home-made cookies with the hospitality tray, lovely soaps and smellies in the bathroom and even a antique polished dresser in the sitting room. Breakfast was everything you could ask for. Not least there was a spacious shingle drive and parking area for the car. Good value for a modest price. Check it out.

"Pottery course: Ahhh, the smell of damp clay and the sound of whirring wheels. Dave breathes enthusiasm into his pottery studio and this three day course. With his friendly and knowledgeable help we made pots, jugs, mugs and plates. The highlight was the dramatic raku firing with a red hot oven, flames from the sawdust as molten objects were dunked in the pit and then the gentle hiss as they were cooled down in water. Not least, there was the excited scrubbing off of the ash to find the dramatic, colourful crackleware beneath. We came away feeling elated, creative and a world away from the humdrum computer-driven world. There's nothing quite like making attractive objects with your own hands. Try it."
