Meet the man at the wheel

Vinegar Hill Pottery is run by widely recognised potter David Rogers, and is in Milford on Sea, Hampshire.

Dave has a degree in Ceramics from Farnham Art College where he also worked in the local pottery. He has been a professional potter since 1997 and produces a range of classic functional stoneware and one-off exhibition pieces.

Dave's work is all thrown on the potter’s wheel and very high fired making it long lasting and durable. His pots are traditional in style but with a contemporary finish. His rich glazes are deep, textural and beautiful in their own right. He aims to give his pots a minimalist feel with clean lines and the criteria that form follows function. Throwing lines are emphasised which along with his vibrant blues and the curled handles have become trademarks. Recent work includes a fantastic range of striped cream tableware and his new found love, woodfired pots. He built his own wood-fired kiln in 2011 which enabled him to experiment and develop his work further. Watch this space!

Each piece is stamped on the bottom with his sign, VHP. (earlier work had the stamp dar a combination of his initials).

Dave shows his work in galleries and craft shops locally and around the country, and exhibits at craft fairs such as Art in Action, Art in Clay, Hatfield and The Contemporary Craft Fair Bovey Tracey. He also works on commissions, wedding lists and one-off pieces. Vinegar Hill Pottery also runs pottery courses focused on mastering the potter’s wheel, great lunches and Raku firing.
